Stray Feeding Leads to Stray Over-Population!
Spay OR Neuter A Stray
Stray Feeding Leads to Stray Over-Population!
Here’s How it Starts
If you feed stray animals and do not get them sterilised, they become healthier with a regular food source and will produce healthier litters.
When these young ones come of age, they will reproduce and numbers will increase. Dogs come into heat every 6 months and cats, every 3 weeks.
Once people know that animals are fed regularly, they will start to dump their dogs or cats at your feeding site causing numbers to increase and more litters to be produced.
Tenants and residents will complain if dogs become a nuisance as they will become aggressive to defend their territory. Some feeders leave a mess after feeding and that leads to more complaints.
The town council, after receiving complaints, will catch the animals but this does not solve the problem. Removing the dogs or cats will only create a vacuum for more animals to enter the territory especially when you continue to feed them.
The Solution
If You Feed Them, Fix Them by sending them to be sterilised to keep numbers in check.
If there are no complaints, dogs can be returned with a dedicated caregiver if you continue to feed them.
The caregiver must ensure that they feed the animals away from residential or commercial areas. Any problems must be managed by the caregiver to avoid any complaints.
If animals cannot be returned, they must be re-located to a shelter or re-homed.
This is the only way but the animals must still get sterilised no matter what the outcome to keep the numbers down.
